Biography

Jeff is the Kraemer Strategy Fellow at the American Foreign Policy Council (AFPC) and the Managing Editor of the World Almanac of Islamism 2011. He has provided briefings and consulted for the Pentagon, State Department, and Directorate of National Intelligence on South Asia and U.S. national security. He is currently writing a book on Sino-Indian relations to be released in 2013 and serves as the editor of AFPC's South Asia Security Monitor.

Smith's writings have appeared in the Wall Street Journal Asia, U.S. News and World Report, CNN, the Harvard International Review, Yale Global, the Washington Times, Defense News, Jane's Intelligence Review, World Politics Review, The Diplomat, the Far Eastern Economic Review, Asia Times, and The Hindu, among others. His interviews and commentary can be seen on the BBC, CNBC, Fox News, the Voice of America, al-Hurra, Agence France-Presse, and Pakistan's Dawn News. He is also the chair of the Young Professionals in Foreign Policy South Asia Discussion Group.

Smith has an MPIA from the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs and studied abroad at Oxford University in 2005 and has lectured at the graduate and undergraduate level.
