Jeff M. Smith is the Director of Asian Security Programs at the American Foreign Policy Council (AFPC). He is author of Cold Peace: Sino-Indian Rivalry in the 21st Century (Lexington Books, 2014), and Editor or contributing author to more than a half-dozen current and forthcoming books and monographs on Asian security issues.Smith has testified as an expert witness before the House Armed Services and Foreign Affairs Committees, as well as the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission. He regularly provides briefings for Members of Congress and their staff, as well as agencies and departments in the Executive Branch. He has served in an advisory role for multiple presidential campaigns.

His writings on Asian security issues have appeared in Foreign Affairs, the Wall Street Journal, Foreign Policy, CNN, the Harvard International Review, Jane's Intelligence Review, The National Interest and The Diplomat, among others. In recent years he has been interviewed and cited by the New York Times, The Economist, Reuters, the BBC, CNN, Fox News, CBS, CNBC, the Voice of America, and TIME Magazine, among others. Smith has an MPIA in Security and Intelligence Studies from the GSPIA at the University of Pittsburgh. He studied abroad at Oxford University in 2005 and has served as a guest lecturer at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
